From noon on September 17, 2010 until noon the following day, three residents of British Columbia, Canada climbed nonstop in an effort to raise money for one of the country's highly respected children's charities, Ronald McDonald House®. When the climbing subsided, the amount raised to be donated to this charity totaled nearly $5,000. Impressively, this charity fundraising event went from idea to fruition in roughly two weeks.

Origins of the Fundraising Idea

A resident of Cranbrook, BC and a top mixed climber, event organizer Gordon McArthur, 30, also happens to be in the process of opening a brand-new, state-of-the-art indoor climbing facility, Projects Mountain Centre. Inspired by his climbing coach Will Gadd, who conducted a similar charity fundraising event last year using ice climbing as the central theme, McArthur came up with the 24-hour climbing event idea as a way to raise money for Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta.

McArthur selected Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta as the beneficiary of his fundraising event due to his personal ties with the organization. Several close friends of McArthur's have recently found comfort in this "compassionate, safe and affordable home away from home" that helps "give sick children what they need most...their families," as the organization's Web site explains.
