State Retirement Systems Illinois

Latest figures in the annual Social Trends survey, released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on the 2nd July 2010, show that the State Pension is the sole means of support for one third of UK pensioners. What does this mean for those approaching retirement?

Over 30% of UK Pensioners Depend Solely on the State Pension System

The figures released by ONS give an annual snapshot of UK society and how it changes over time. The latest data, based on the years 2007-8, show that 31% of pensioners in the country have to rely on State Pension benefits as their sole means of income support in retirement.

The data also shows that single women are more likely to be in this situation than single men or retired couples. The statistics for women run at 42% compared to men at 31% and couples at 19%. Attitudes towards the state provision of pensions also show that there is an expectation that it is the duty of the government to provide for retirement.
